Collection: Historical Globes

We are currently applying some changes and NOT PROCESSING any orders at this time. We'll be back soon.

In this collection we offer four Historical globes reprojected from old maps:

  • ERDAPFEL 1492 - The original Erdapfel is the oldest surviving Terrestrial globe today and is more than 500 years old.
  • ORTELIUS 1570 – This map was published in the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, which became the world’s first atlas.
  • HENRI 1636 - This is derived from one of the most famous and elaborately detailed world maps of the 17th Century published in Amsterdam.
  • CASSINI 1790 - This globe depicts the famous three voyages of Captain James Cook in 1790.

These overall designs have not been altered with the exception of adjustments made to the geographic coordinates and some colors necessary to make a clean reprojection on a sphere. A bit of artistic license was used in creating these globes. Some small imperfections obtained from the source image still remain.

The Historical globes listed here are individually handmade one at a time, created on demand upon request.
